“De Vergulde Pantoffel”
When I started my company twenty five years ago, I wanted to come up with a name which would last and is also associated with my work. Thinking of the ‘antique’ furniture, lamps, mirrors etc. that I restore, I came to the conclusion that they were objects that used to fit in a basic middle class household. Those ‘slippers’ (De vergulde pantoffel = The gilded slipper) from back in the day we now call “antique”. Because of their age and history they have a “golden” meaning for us.
The Louis Philippe cabinets, that mostly arise from the Mayenne in Mid-France, were often part of the dowry. This consists of a linen closet, a built in kitchen buffet (a so called “Deux Corps”) and a corner bed with a night table which contained the lavatory.
